more of the hype machine cometh?

Idolatry is usually defined as worship of any cult imageidea, or object, as opposed to the worship of a monotheistic God. In today's context, idolatry is not limited to religious concepts, however, and considered more of a social phenomenon where false perceptions are created and worshipped, or even used as a term in the entertainment industry.

If you build it, the brands with come? (Brands will to go where buyers are) and brands love the hype machine. Enter - a live & active fan page where YOU make the brand content? A place where companies can find who likes them and then target them with new products? Could also tie in with social media to leverage even more fandom/fanboys?
The big question: where/how do smaller brands fit into this?
Not exactly a new idea? IIRC hotornot had this years ago and had pages on facebook where users uploaded content about the brand too. Brazil already has their versionLittle Debbies, Krispy Kreme anyone?
