And FYI - here's the real GDP growth from the time the New Deal was enacted until the beginning of WWII. Starting in 1931, you'll notice the steady upward trend until about 1938, when FDR was convinced to balance the budget, and employment and GDP went sharply down.
Then, yes. Government spending on WWII mostly helped bring us out of Depression. But, that kind of proves the point that Government spending does the trick. Roosevelt was not doing enough. But, the New Deal was working.
